Ages 2.5 – 4 | Afternoon Program 2:00 – 5:00pm (September–June)
Why STEM Matters in Preschool
At ages 2.5 – 4, children are natural scientists and builders. They ask endless “why” questions, experiment constantly, and are eager to figure out how things work. Early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) doesn’t mean worksheets or complicated concepts – it means giving children the chance to:
- Test ideas through play (“What happens if it rolls down the ramp?”)
- Sort, compare, and measure in hands-on ways
- Build, take apart, and build again
- Explore nature, weather, light, and water
- Work with friends to solve simple problems
Our Preschool STEM Program channels that natural curiosity into joyful, guided exploration – giving children the skills and confidence that set the stage for school readiness and a lifelong love of learning.
What the Program Looks Like
Each afternoon follows a consistent rhythm, with lots of time for discovery and collaboration.
STEM Circle Time – Story, question of the day, and an open-ended challenge.
STEM Activity – Hands-on experiment, building project, or problem-solving task.
Outdoor Exploration – Ramps, bridges, nature hunts, and weather play brought outside.
Snack & Conversation – Introduce new STEM vocabulary in context.
Take-Home Reflection – Each day, children bring home something to show or tell about their discoveries.
Monthly Themes (September – June)
Our 10-month program builds logically from simple foundations to more complex exploration, always scaffolded for preschool learners:
- September: Building Basics (blocks, ramps, balance)
- October: Nature Science (leaves, pumpkins, sorting in nature)
- November: Weather & Water (rain, wind, ice, sink/float)
- December: Light & Shadow
- January: Measurement & Magnets
- February: Building & Bridges
- March: Motion & Transportation
- April: Growing & Gardening
- May: Animals & Habitats
- June: Exploration & Review
Across the 10-month program, preschoolers explore 60+ STEM-themed picture books (7-8 new titles each month). These stories spark curiosity, introduce key vocabulary, and give children language to describe their experiments, building projects, and discoveries.
What Your Child Will Gain
By the end of the program, children will:
- Use 50+ STEM-related words with confidence (fast/slow, sink/float, balance, strong/weak, tall/short, grow, build).
- Predict and test ideas through hands-on experiments.
- Sort and compare objects by size, colour, weight, and texture.
- Build and collaborate with peers on towers, bridges, ramps, and more.
- Show early math readiness by counting, measuring, and sequencing steps.
- Feel proud of their discoveries and eager to share them at home.
Why Families Choose This Program
- Inquiry-Based: Children learn through predicting, testing, and sharing results.
- Play + Purpose: Every experiment and project is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and fun.
- Real-World Connections: From rain puddles to garden seeds, STEM learning comes alive in daily experiences.
- Confidence-Building: Children learn to take risks, solve problems, and celebrate mistakes as part of learning.
- Small Group Setting: With limited spaces, each child receives personal encouragement and guidance.
The Preschool STEM Program gives children a joyful, structured way to explore their curiosity – turning everyday play into a foundation for school readiness and a lifelong love of discovery.
